DS Automobiles

DS 3
The DS 3 is the company’s smallest car, but it’s marketed as a prestige product in line with the brand’s aspirations. It lives up to that for the most part, especially as the only trim level now listed on the DS Automobiles website is the high-spec Bastille version. The DS 3 is a highly distinctive-looking five-door hatchback that counts the MINI Cooper among its few direct rivals, but where the MINI is developed for agile handling, the DS is more focused on comfort. Buyers can choose between 100hp petrol power or the 136hp hybrid auto.

DS 4
Our favourite DS of the moment is the DS 4. Despite its Stellantis group underpinnings, the DS 4 is a uniquely designed car that mixes crossover vibes with coupe and hatchback style. The interior is just as individual as the exterior, helping to justify its pricing, and it’s a competent car on the road. The 130hp petrol engine is decent enough, though the 225hp plug-in hybrid powertrain is preferable if you can regularly charge up the battery from an external source. And there’s a fully electric variant on the way in 2025 before the car receives its midlife update.

DS 7
If you want a good-quality luxury SUV with a difference, it’s worth seeking out the understated DS 7. It tops the line-up for DS Automobiles and competes with Audi, BMW and Mercedes models from the class – and price – above, making it decent value. For now, there are diesel and plug-in hybrid options in the range, though we know a replacement is in the works for later in 2025, and we wouldn’t rule out the introduction of an all-electric version.
