Grand Cherokee

Sadly set to be a rare sight in Ireland because Jeep is flat out meeting US-market demand, the Grand Cherokee comes as a handsome plug-in hybrid that’s less well-specified than its Range Rover Sport rival (smaller battery, four-cylinder engine) but it’s surprisingly effective and good to drive, with a gorgeous interior. Can off-road with the best of them, not that many owners will ever bother to find out. Has a quality feel that previous versions lacked.

it comes with a level of toughness that most crossovers could only dream about

Avenger

Jeep launched its smallest modern model, the Avenger, as the brand’s first electric car, with a range of up to 400km on a charge. We love its baby-Jeep looks, though in reality it’s little different to the Peugeot 2008 and Fiat 600 underneath. Since its introduction, ‘mild-hybrid’ and petrol options have joined the range, bringing the price down considerably.

Compass

The Jeep Compass is the company’s mainstream five-seat SUV and though it is set to be replaced by an all-new car by 2026, “realigned” pricing means it’s still worth a look today. Mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid options are offered and while the car isn’t as refined as the best on the market, it comes with a level of toughness that most crossovers could only dream about.

Renegade

What used to be Jeep’s entry-level model is now getting on a bit, but the Renegade is still a charming alternative to the mostly curvy alternatives offered by rival manufacturers. Despite the chunky off-road looks, power only comes from a hybrid system driving the front wheels.
